Blogs can have a wide variety of uses. The term ‘blog’ can be a bit misleading. Originally a blog was a sort of online journal. Now blogs are really content management systems.  Entire websites can be built using simple blogging software and a bit of know-how. This website is built using Wordpress - a type of blogging software - but it doesn’t look like a blog. It does, however, use all the advantages of blogs - relatively quick to build, simple and fast to update, standard compliant (that is, it conforms to existing web standards) and SEARCH ENGINE FRIENDLY.

RSS is simply a way of importing and exporting news / blog items to or from a website. For example, if you have a website on a certain subject and you want the latest headlines on that subject to appear on your website, you can do this using RSS.
